He is a beyond humble young man of few words; however, when you talk to Jacob Bettencourt there is no denying that he is a shining example of excellence and leadership in and out of the classroom. Jacob, a senior at Putnam City High School, is first in his 2024 graduating class with a GPA exceeding 4.0. Additionally, he is enrolled in all Advanced Placement courses, holds leadership roles in JROTC, a member of National Honor Society (NHS), he’ll letter in Track and Field, a member of the nationwide JROTC Academic Bowl team, and now he has an appointment to West Point.
Jacob received a surprise phone call this morning from Senator Markwayne Mullin congratulating him on his West Point appointment. Jacob says he has received three nominations and a letter of assurance for West Point. He should be finding out any day now if he has been accepted, but the odds are looking very good. Looking beyond his humble demeanor, you can see that he is very excited about the future and pursuing a degree in computer science. Matt Parham, Putnam City High School Head Counselor, had nothing but the highest accolades to describe Jacob. He said, “He’s got to be close to the highest GPA we’ve ever had in years. Jacob can do whatever he wants to do.”
Putnam City Schools is beyond proud of Jacob and we can’t wait to follow his journey in life. We look forward to adding him to the District’s distinguished list of highly notable alumni and as they say at Putnam City High School, “Once a Pirate, Always a Pirate.”
